Miracle Pillow

My friend came to me with a shirt that was cut in pieces including one giant cut down the front. Her daughter had been in a terrible car accident the year before. The car was crushed. Miraculously, her daughter and the others in the car all survived. This shirt had been her daughter’s favorite. She saved it because it reminded her how lucky she and the others were. It was her miracle shirt. I turned it into a miracle pillow for her.

This is the miracle shirt as it came to me.
This is what it looked like once I had removed the back.
After fusing the pieces with interfacing, I added a white piece of fabric to the back and tried as hard as I could to line the pieces up. Then I straight stitched all the edges.
I used a medium tight zig-zag stitch to secure all the edges. I felt that a satin stitch would put too much attention on the “scar.”
I added borders, batting, and a backing before quilting it.
Here is the completed pillow with the 24″ square pillow form inside.
